The incredible White Tail Deer

Those Piney deer sure get smart with age. I picked out a new spot with much deer activity, and strapped myself into the self climbing stand. Clothes and body washed with scent killer, cover sprays on, wind to my face, Full camo, yes.  . . . . . . . .
I climbed up high, standing at the ready on my little perch. Here he comes, it’s that eight pointer that turned into a ghost since summer. He's walkin'  . . mighty slow, . . . sniffin' and  lookin' around. He stops at 50 yards out, ears scanning, nose to the air. One step, two step, stops. . .  Every step at full alert. Finally, he's 35 yards out . . . just show me your side ol' boy. He starts to turn and stops. Head lifts,  . . . he looks dead at me.
 . . . . . . .
Moments pass,  . . I can count my heartbeats. He looks away and takes one step . . . I center my aim and wait for him to turn. He looks again . . . flash . . not a turn but, a tail.  He struts away with a snort. How did he bust me?

What is a Bug out Bag?

This is a question that may get a slightly different answer from each person that you ask.
As a General Rule – a bug out bag is simply an Emergency Kit that is Pre-made or put together and ready to grab in case an emergency situation occurs and you must flee from an area with a limited amount of emergency or survival gear.
The Bag or Kit should contain – gear and supplies needed to sustain your life and provide some basic needs while you are away from normal living conditions due to an emergency or disaster.
Gear Options will differ - according to a several variables such as, climate, time of year, personal skills/experiences and the likely emergency at hand.
Opinions will vary – from person to person about, “what gear is most important?”
Examples:
#1 – A Medic may be more inclined to prioritize first aid and medical supplies.
#2 – A person with a military background might be geared towards ammo and meals ready to eat.
#3 – A Woodsman will probably rely more on gear that aids them in using the natural environment to provide for some needs.
#4 – An Urban dweller could lean towards items like a multi tool and a GPS which are more suited to a man made environment.

My Strong Suggestion – Know who you are and where you are. Then build a kit that first gives aid to “The Four Essentials for life”. (Essentials are shelter, water, rest and food). Add items to your kit that in some way also cover first aid, navigation, signaling, self defense, and perhaps some comfort options.
Last Word – Be realistic and practical. I’ve seen too many bags that are based on fantasy or wishful thinking. Can you really carry a 90 pound pack? Is a condom practical for use as a canteen? Do you think that “third” gun and case of ammo is more important than shelter, water, rest and food?
That sad fact is that many people seem to gravitate towards videos and information that is not grounded in experience. You can help to avoid misinformation by testing out your gear. Visit a store that carries camping supplies and see what works for camping. I recommend practicing a bug out even if only for one day, you’ll be surprised what becomes most important.

The Reason for this Blog

The Ghostsquatter blog is an attempt to compliment the Ghostsquatter1 tube page by offering another media for posts and discussions that a tube channel alone can not adequately cover. For example if I want to open a discussion about our opinions of Man vs.Wild with out posting a vid on the tube. Another example is if I want to post a temporary video that I can put on and take off the site in order to limit the views to a smaller group of interested viewers. This will help me to manage certain topics and feedback. This would also give me the opportunity to respond or answer questions more productively while avoiding some random questions from fly by viewers who are not really interested in the topics.
This Blog may not work but, I wanted to put it out there and see what happens.

Ghostkamo (the journey continues)

Ghostsquatter or Ghostsquatter1 will continue the teachings and adventures of Ghostkamo from a different perspective. Ghostkamo will remain active but, will be more focused on Bushcraft and Wilderness Survival while Ghostsquatter1 will move into Gear, Bobs, Emergency Preparedness and topics for those closer to being civilized.
